Privacy policy.

Signal Family helps adults organize family life using the information they choose to connect. This policy describes the current Mac pilot from Polity Interfaces.

The essentials: your family workspace is stored on your Mac. Relevant family context and connected-source content are sent to your connected AI service to prepare answers. Email and calendar connections use read access. You control which accounts, calendars, and conversations are included.

Who provides Signal

Information the app accesses

Data and purpose
Information	How Signal uses it
Family context	Your name, timezone, people, responsibilities, preferences, messages to the assistant, and corrections help personalize briefings and saved notes.
Google identity	Your email address and Google account identifier label the connection and keep accounts separate. Sign-in credentials allow the app to renew the access you granted.
Gmail	Message identifiers, dates, senders, recipients, subjects, message text, and attachment names help find commitments, notices, reservations, and other relevant family information. Signal gradually imports messages from the last 30 days per included account, excluding spam, trash, and drafts. Completed batches are saved locally, and unfinished imports resume when the app reopens. HTML email is converted locally to text without loading remote images or running scripts. Message text is limited to 20,000 characters, and unavailable or shortened content is marked. Signal does not download attachment contents.
Google Calendar	Calendar identifiers and names let you choose calendars. For selected calendars, Signal reads event details such as titles, dates, times, locations, descriptions, and invitation status to prepare schedules and identify changes. Discovery does not automatically select a calendar or import its events.
Other selected sources	If connected, Microsoft accounts provide similar identity, email, and calendar information; Microsoft email imports include up to 500 messages from the last 30 days. Mac calendars and selected Messages conversations provide event or conversation content available on the device, after the required macOS permissions.
App records	Saved briefings, conversations, notes, source snapshots, refresh timestamps, and error states support continuity and explain coverage. App and AI runtime logs may also contain information needed to operate or diagnose the app.

Selected calendar reads cover the previous seven days and next 45 days, with limits on the number of events. Selected Messages conversations cover up to 1,000 recent messages per conversation from the last 30 days. Attachments and content missing from the Mac can leave gaps.

Google permissions and use

Signal requests Google account identity, Gmail read access, calendar-list read access, and calendar-event read access. These permissions support the account selection, briefings, and family planning features described above. Signal does not request permission to send mail, delete mail, create events, or edit events.

Signal Family’s use and transfer of information obtained through Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy and the Google Workspace Limited Use requirements. Google data is used for the family-assistance features you request, and is not sold, used for advertising, or used by Polity Interfaces to train general-purpose AI models.

AI processing and other sharing

When you ask a question or enable a briefing routine, Signal makes the family workspace and selected source snapshots available to the assistant. Your prompt, relevant family context, source text read by the assistant, and conversation context are sent to the AI provider to generate the response. This can include email or event details, names, and other personal information you supplied.

The current pilot uses OpenAI through your own ChatGPT sign-in and the bundled Codex runtime. Processing, retention, and data-sharing controls depend on that account and service. Signal does not change your provider’s account settings. Use provider settings that prevent connected Google data from being used to train general-purpose models. The current app has no Polity Interfaces server that receives your connected inboxes, calendars, or family workspace. Data travels from your Mac to the providers needed for the connections and AI features. The providers may process information in locations outside your country under their own terms and applicable account settings.

If you contact us for support, we receive what you choose to send and use it to answer your request. Please send a description or a fictional example instead of an entire inbox or family data folder. We do not routinely receive or read your connected source content. Any request for specific content to diagnose a problem will be explained to you first.

Storage and retention

Family profiles, selected-source snapshots, notes, reports, and conversation records are kept in Signal’s Application Support folder on your Mac. Google and Microsoft email credentials are stored in macOS Keychain. AI sign-in and runtime records are stored separately from the model-readable family workspace.

These local records remain until you remove them. A refresh replaces the source snapshot; if a refresh fails, earlier imported information may be retained with a status or coverage indicator. Disconnecting a source removes its current imported data as described below, but does not remove information already included in notes, reports, conversations, backups, or records held by a provider.

Signal uses secure connections for provider requests and private local file permissions. It does not currently provide its own encryption for the whole family workspace or automatic iCloud synchronization. Device encryption, device access controls, and any backups are managed by you and macOS. AI processing means the app is not an end-to-end encrypted or fully offline service.

Your controls and deletion

Stop using an inbox: turn off its email switch in Connections. This removes its current cached email. Its separately selected calendars can still be included.
Stop using a calendar or conversation: deselect it in the corresponding Connections picker. This removes its current imported content from that source snapshot.
Remove an account: use the account menu in Connections. This removes its local email credential, imported email, and directly connected calendar selections and snapshots.
Revoke provider access: remove Signal from your Google account’s third-party connections, or the equivalent controls in your Microsoft account. Removing an account in Signal does not itself revoke the provider’s authorization grant.
Remove all local Signal records: first remove connected email accounts and sign out of the AI account in Connections, then quit Signal. In Finder, use Go → Go to Folder and open ~/Library/Application Support/. Move the Signal Family folder to Trash and empty Trash when you are ready to permanently delete it. This removes the standard installation’s local family workspace and app records. Deleting the app alone does not remove this folder. Remove any separate backups or exported copies you also want deleted.

Use your AI provider’s controls for information already processed or retained by that provider. Contact us for help with local deletion or to request deletion of support correspondence. We will explain any records we must retain for an applicable obligation.

Website visits

These Signal pages do not connect to your accounts, request mailbox access, or include advertising or analytics scripts. The website host may process ordinary request information, such as IP addresses, browser information, and requested URLs, to deliver and secure the site. Adults and family information

Signal is intended for adults managing their own household. It is not an app for children to sign into directly. Add information about other people only when you are authorized to use and share it for this purpose.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when the app’s data practices change and update the date above. Material changes to connected-data use will require notice and any necessary consent before the new use begins.
